Great interviews with a who's who of Canadian and American Roots Rock,Blues, and Americana artists.  Chronicling Brooks' life and music, overcoming failure and adddictions.  The documentary also captures the musical history of the 60's and 70's in an unique way.  On a personal lvel, Brooks was very impressed with all the artists who articulated so well off the cuff, and Christopher's ability to capture this by making everyone feel at home and relaxed.  It makes the film their story as well and throughout the movie, there were three parallel threads interwoven; their story, Danny's story/live/music and an era of music history.  Christopher Darton made a wonderful film!

Teaser - Hard Working Man Documentary

Update from Producer/Director:  Christopher Darton

Blues Harp Productions

Things are going well.  Shooting some footage here and there ... wherever possible.  Interviewed the talented Mr. David Wilcox in May.  Slowed by a little surgery this month and then more again in June.  Lot's to do ... lot's more to shoot but for now ... we have a teaser.

Unlike a movie trailer that's a couple of minutes long and reveals more details about the film; a teaser is just that ... a tease. Something to hopefully wet people's appetite's for a particular film and just more or less get it out there that we're working on this wonderful project.

The Documentary "Hard Working Man: The Music and Miracles of Danny Brooks"

As many of you are aware,  documentary film maker Christopher Darton has begun production of the film. "Hard Working Man:  The Music and Miracles of Danny Brooks" (slated for early 2017 release).

Recently
Christopher sat down and chatted with Preserving the Blues Dave Tomlinson about his past and current projects.  "The Way We Was:  The Story of The Kendall Wall Blues Band", and the story of Richard Newell, better known as "King Biscuit Boy" (favorite new artist of the Rolling Stones in the 80's).  And of course, "Hard Working Man: The Music and Miracles of Danny Brooks".  The interview gives us some insight into the vision that Christopher has for Danny's documentary, and why he feels so strongly about preserving the stories of these artists.

Hard Working Man: The Music and Miracles of Danny Brooks Documentary by: Christopher Darton

WOW!  Y'all are so amazing!  We did it, we attained the KickStarter Campaign goal for Christopher Darton's documentary "Hard Working Man: The Music and Miracles of Danny Brooks"Christopher knew that to be successful in raising the funds for this documentary, we needed to keep the goal realistic, seeking a total of $2,850 Canadian ($2,260 American).   With your help, we succeeded!

As many of you may already know, a huge part of who Danny Brooks is his desire to give back.  Each time Danny Brooks is on tour, he makes a point of going to, and performing for clients in drug rehabs, halfway houses and/or prisons.  Whenever Danny and Debi go into one of these facilities, all costs (travel, accommodations, food, etc.) are covered by the Brooks, there is no monetary compensation (very rarely is compensation received and never for a prison).  Danny and Debi have go into facilities, both in Canada and the U.S.A..  David Wade (Louisiana), Travis County (Texas), Parchman Farm (Mississippi), Cook County (Chicago), The Castle (death row inmates - West Kentucky), Bath Institute, Millhaven, Joyceville (Ontario), and, Ferndale (B.C.) are some of the facilities that have been visited on one or more occasion(s).  In Louisiana,  the Brooks have visited clients at the notorious "Angola Prison"

Because of each and every one of you, "Hard Working Man: The Music and Miracles of Danny Brooks" will become a reality!  Whether you personally contributed financially, or passed emails along to someone you felt might also wish to contribute, or you simply prayed for the financial success of this campaign and the completion of the film, we could not have done this without you!  You ARE the reason that this documentary will come to fruition!  Thank you, thank you, and thank you!  We are enormously thankful for all you have done!

We are so excited to begin the filming of this project, and to finally be able to share
the completed film
"Hard Working Man: The Music and Miracles of Danny Brooks" with y'all!  God bless!

Texassippi Soul Man Danny Brooks & Lil Miss Debi are Singing the Green Card Blues

Singing The Green Card Blues
Danny Brooks (C)
"I ain't green with envy, for what you have or what you do,
I'm happy in my own skin, and what I'm going through.
I don't ask for much, but Lord I'm calling on You,
to give me strength to handle, these low down, Green Card Blues!"

His House Records is proud to announce that Texassippi Soul Man’ Danny Brooks and Lil Miss Debi are now ‘Permanent Residents’ of Llano Texas, receiving their Green Cards after a 20 month process! It has been quite a ride these past five months!  They were unable to work and without drivers licenses! It is through the kindness of the Llano Cowboy Church, and other friends that they managed to make ends meet to which they are very grateful! Since they arrived in Llano five years ago they have declared themselves to be proud new Texanadians and now it is official!  Next step citizenship!

During that ordeal, there were many times when doubt crept in and looking back now, they are able to see how it galvanized their spirit and marriage.  While waiting out the process they completed  two books ‘Miracles For Breakfast / The Journey Continues’ and ‘Miracles For Breakfast / The Lonely Battle’ which received a glowing endorsement from renowned author/motivational speaker Denis Waitley/Seeds of Greatness .   These two books are the initial installments of a 7 book ‘Miracles For Breakfast’ Series. The Journey ContinuesAlthough there may be some similarities to the the first book ‘Miracles For Breakfast / How Faith Helped Me Kick My Addictions’ published by John Wiley & Sons in 2008, this series leans more to the motivational/inspirational aspect and even has a ‘political’ ending, speaking on the beginnings of the USA and its relationship to the country of Israel. The Lonely Battle focuses on the time frame of coming to realize you have an addiction, getting help and the crucial two year period upon leaving rehab. It is a powerful read and will be a help to any family or corporation dealing with loved ones/employees with addictions.  Both books are full of practical motivational and inspirational incentives that will assist the reader, to discover the God given potential for joy, peace and success in us all.

The 2017 winter/spring tour is being booked and the Brooks’ will be offering a new service in the form of a ‘Music Motivational’ presentation that will underscore the power in us all to BELIEVE in who we are and what we are capable of doing. The Journey Continues opens with this: "Adversity is the bridge to greatness. We all go through difficult and trying times and it is seldom 'convenient.' Nevertheless at a later time we see how it fashioned certain ideas and added some muscle to our character. God works in amazing ways and uses our adversity that we may get a better understanding in all things. He is well acquainted with grief and adversity. Adversity is the bridge to greatness!"

Danny and Debi Brooks would like to thank Tom Clarke for connecting us with our congressional office and ensuring that we were not lost in the shuffle! So thankful to Nancy at Congressman Mike Conaway's office for all her efforts! Thankful for Ethel Schneider and Billy-Bob Schneider for being our chauffeurs during the wait! We are also thankful for the understanding of all the venues and promoters where gigs were booked and had to be cancelled, especially after they did promotions and who are now willing to bring Texassippi Soul Man Danny Brooks and Lil Miss Debi back!

The Genesis of The Journey Continues

Miracles For Breakfast / The Journey Continues:  First review from renowned author and motivational speaker Denis Waitley - Seeds of Greatness, The Winners Edge"Danny Brooks lives his music and his new book is a lyrical banquet of true miracles experienced in his challenging, continuing journey on God's highway.  He, and his wife Debi, are examples of what we all can achieve, if we believe and take daily actions based upon genuine love and eternal truth."

"The Journey Continues" is Danny Brooks' second book, following up on his 2008 ‘Miracles For Breakfast / How Faith Helped Me Kick My Addictions' This book is slated for a 2017 publication and is the first of a new 7 book ‘Miracles For Breakfast Series'.  Carrying on in the miracle theme, the book begins at the point of his life when he suffered heart problems during a 2010 gig at Threadgills in Austin Texas, Danny was able to remarkably finish the gig and continued on with the tour for another 5 weeks, before returning home to discover he had five major, completely blocked arteries! The book settles into a motivational groove inspired by one of Brooks’ motivational heroes Denis Waitley who’s book Seeds Of Greatness had a profound affect on Danny’s life.

In the ‘down-time’ while awaiting their immigration issues to be settled, they used the time creatively and a 2nd book in the series is now complete, ‘Miracles For Breakfast/The Lonely Battle’.  Says Brooks “this may be the best writing I have done and is a book that I should have written long ago.”  With the interest/controversy over Patrick Kennedy’s new book, A Common Struggle: A Personal Journey Through The Past and Future of Mental Illness and Addiction’, 'The Lonely Battle' is a book for this current time. It focuses on the time period of coming to the realization you have a problem, getting into a rehabilitation center and the crucial two years beginning recovery. It is both compelling and informative for the addict and family members and once again written from personal experiences, laced with motivational examples and direction. “I personally applaud Patrick Kennedy for his being open and forthright about his own difficulties and that of his family’s. It shows others they are not alone, and there is nothing to be ashamed of. It happens to the best of us and it is beatable!”

Danny and Lil Miss Debi will begin work on; 'Inspirations For Living', combining some of Debi’s photos, coupled with inspirational sayings, commentary and poetry. Also on deck is a complete 3 book series ‘Stories Behind The Songs’, the lyrics, reliving the travels, tales, working with the likes of Jim Dickinson, Bo Didley, Johnny Sandlin, Louis X Erlanger, Brownie McGhee, The Muscle Shoals musicians, Bootroots, The Beach Boys, Darrell Staedtler and others that make for both a commanding, humorous, inspirational and motivational read.  Lastly, Lil Miss Debi and Danny Brooks will be starting a new series of coloring books entitled "Color Our Tour" which will allow the "artist" to come along with the Brooks on each of their tours.  Coloring books have become a means of relaxation for young and old alike.

We look forward to seeing y’all up the road on our travels!

This World Is Not Your Friend  Podcast

Late one night, many years ago, working at 315 Beale Street Studios, in Memphis TN, on ‘Its A Southern Thing’ with the late great Jim Dickinson we had a chat about the music biz being fair to everyone; it dumps on everyone equally. Doesn’t pick favourites, its just a hard road to tow. Life is like that and this song came about lickity split. Life will chew you up if you let it, but don’t you let it; stand your ground!

Blue Highway  Podcast

When I was four my Mom would sing and sashay to the music of Hank Williams and Rev. Jumpin’ Jim Jericho. Sometimes she had tears in her eyes (my parents were separated at that time). I recall asking my Mom if she was okay and she hugged me and said she was. I learned a whole lot about soul from my Mom and from that time on I developed ‘definiteness of purpose’, with a desire to sing on the Grand Ole Opry Stage. It is why I do what I do today. Thanks for getting me started Mom!

All God's Children  Podcast

There was a rough bar in Toronto Canada in an equally rough neighbourhood, Mt. Dennis. There was a real sweetheart who ran the bar most nights and she was loved and respected by everyone and everyone looked out for her like she was every one’s sister.  It was basically a biker bar and it seemed incongruous for this sweet and kind minded person to be in the middle of wild shenanigans that went on. Lot of blood spilled in this place.  One day I came to set up my equipment before the band got there and went to the bar to get a whiskey and I didn’t see anyone, but I heard something; walked up the bar a bit and the office door being opened a bit, I peeked in.  There was this same sweet effervescent  gal weeping.  I was taken aback; she must have sensed my presence, cleaned her face and stood up and I skedaddled back down the bar.  She comes out, see’s me and says with a big smile “hey Danny how are you”?  I wanted to say something but didn’t, but it came out in this song.
